Stronger than oak
I know this is a plane tree, but it still made me think of the saying 'my word is stronger than oak.' Today I stood beneath this tree and thought how strong it needed to be, what storms it had to weather to grow as big and beautiful as this. Roots down deep for grounding and anchoring, branches spread high to the sky and a tenacious spirit in between.
Ordinarily, I'm a pretty strong person, but today had me wobbling a little. Goodbyes are tough... and getting tougher it seems. Maybe that's why it's taken me a few days to do this post! I grew up with airports and the comings and goings of my brothers. I've long known that airports are full of excitement when someone is arriving, and frankly, tinged with misery when someone is leaving.
I did the leaving today. And even the prospect of going home didn't really help!
