Shhhh... Don't tell
Don't tell anyone, but I had a day off. Colin worked his tail off from 6-6 doing a day's consulting, and I had the day to look around Denarau. Somehow, 'looking around' turned into a Fiji treat at Mandara Spa... safe to say I'm feeling fairly relaxed. I have spent the last two weeks hanging out with three guys who live and breathe the hospitality industry, so I've been catching the bug of critiquing every hotel, restaurant and cafe we walk into. I figured a spa experience was just part of that...
Denarau is a literal and figurative island on the beach in Nadi... it's full of big hotels, homes, expats and gated communities. It's both lovely and odd, given the real Fiji we've been experiencing so far on this trip. Fijian people work here, but hardly any of them live here.
Having said all that, it's a lovely place to spend a couple of days... so here's me making the best of it ;)
Last but not least: a big vinaka to these two lovely blokes, who have been such good company over the last two weeks. Seems strange to think that two weeks ago I hadn't even met Greg - now I'll feel a bit funny when we're not all sitting down for dinner together tomorrow night!
I am sure I will write more about Colin at a later date, but it has been such a privilege to come to Fiji and see a little of what he has been doing here for the last 40 years. I have learned a huge amount, but only scratched the surface. I am carrying 2500 pictures home with me and am so grateful for having been given this amazing creative opportunity. We are hoping to secure funding for the book, so cross your fingers for us. Here's to the next stages!
