Bula from Fiji - aka paradise.
I am posting a day late for yesterday: somehow it doesn't feel right to condense two days into one post: each photo of the day needs it's little time in the sun. Sunday was a full day of travelling - Raglan, Auckland, Nadi and then Nadi to Suva, beginning to soak up the sights, sounds, scents and flavours of Fiji along the way.
Landing in Nadi I stripped off two layers of merino in anticipation of the heat that hits you the moment you step off the plane. Not much more than an hour later, I stepped into the sea at Natadola Beach; with water so clear we could see the fish swimming by as we gathered limu (seaweed) to cook with.
Colin's lovely friend Greg had brought frangipani lei for us when we arrived: he told me to wear it as long as I wanted to and then sleep with it in my room. Waking in the night and this morning, the whole room was perfumed with them and my usual signature Gardenia and Tuberose perfume has already been replaced by island scents of coconut, ginger lily and pineapple.
The drive from Nadi to Suva is about three hours: through many traditional Fijian villages. We didn't have time to stop, but already I can see that my Fiji will be as much about capturing the simple Fijian life as it will be about photographing the opulence and stunning food.
There will be lots of photographs to come.
