Paddle your waka
My beautiful and talented friend Tracey had offered to make floral arrangements for me for the exhibition. When she phoned me to discuss it the day before the opening, she said she thought she could make me three waka - to symbolise my journey. She used all native foliage to make them, some of it standing up like warrior paddling their way to a new land.
I simply said yes - please paddle your waka over here.
Such a beautiful thoughtful idea, and just one example of the amazing help I've had in recent weeks.
It's been a busy two days at the gallery, ironically not leaving much time to take great photographs. I'm still to get decent shots of the work in the gallery itself. The two days so far have been a steady stream of people coming through, with lots of lovely comment and connection.
I am going to sleep well tonight: time to put the waka on autopilot for a while.
