Wild wild west
I went visiting out at Whale Bay yesterday to talk about upcoming projects. It's about a 25 minute drive from my house and is a complete change from upper harbour to wide open ocean. This changes not only the vista, but also the feel: the upper harbour is cosier, more settled and nestled into the surrounding hills, while the sea coast feels split wide open, wild and totally exposed.
I love both places: and I love that Raglan has a place to suit you no matter what your mood. Today's photos are a few things I encountered on the trip to the wild side. The figs are incredible - food of the gods and such a sensual fruit. Picking them is a daily task for Colin and Rhonda at the moment: as close to dawn as they can manage before the birds damage the best fruit. I helped Colin sort the day's pickings, then went home with as many as I could carry.
The surf rolls past their front deck. The light was coming down as I left and the surfers were still out in their droves. Another late-summer evening in paradise.
